Les monuments de Casablanca racontent deux histoires distinctes. La première est celle de l'urbanisme colonial français du début du XXe siècle : le boulevard Mohammed V concentre certains des plus beaux exemples d'architecture Art Déco et Mauresque hors d'Europe, édifiés sous le Protectorat (1912-1956) par des architectes comme Henri Prost. La seconde est celle de l'ambition marocaine contemporaine : la mosquée Hassan II (1993), conçue par Michel Pinseau, s'élève à 200 mètres au-dessus de l'Atlantique sur une plateforme partiellement construite sur la mer et demeure la deuxième plus haute structure religieuse du monde. Entre les deux se trouvent le quartier Habous, nouvelle médina planifiée au début du XXe siècle, et la cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur (1930), aujourd'hui espace d'exposition culturelle.
